What to Expect When You’re Here
You’ll find Joshua Tree National Park at 74485 National Park Drive in Twentynine Palms, California. The easiest way to access the park is from I-10 using exit 117 for CA Highway 62 towards 29Palms and Yucca Valley. This is a direct route to the park’s West entrance but it’s also a good way to reach Black Rock, Indian Cove, or the North entrance as well. Adding Joshua Tree National Park to your itinerary is a breeze thanks to the fact that it’s open 24 hours a day 365 days a year. The busiest seasons at the park are typically fall and spring when colors are either changing or wildflowers are in full bloom.
Summer typically sees a drop-off in visitor numbers due to rising seasonal temperatures but could be a great option if you’re willing to head out in the early morning hours. In the fall and spring, average daily highs at Joshua Tree National Park linger around 85 degrees Fahrenheit but only hit the 60s in the winter. No matter when you visit, be sure to set aside some time to swing by the Visitor Center in downtown Joshua Tree a mere five miles from the West entrance. It’s open from 7:30 am until 5:00 pm daily all year long and is a great place to find maps, buy entrance passes, get information from park rangers, visit the bookstore, or pick up more in the way of park resources before exploring.
Plan Your Visit
Private vehicles can enter Joshua Tree National Park year-round for $30 each while motorcycles can enter for $25 and those arriving on foot will pay only $15 to enter the park. If you know you’ll be wanting to drop by multiple times, it could be worth it to invest in an annual park pass for just $55. It’s important to keep in mind that Joshua Tree National Park is a rugged desert environment and if you’re planning to head out and hike extensively, you’ll want to be sure to be prepared for the conditions. Always pack plenty of water, food, and supplies for the trail and keep in mind that cell phone reception is extremely limited.
